OLDEST FOOTBALLER AT 51 SIGNS NEW DEAL
Japanese Kazuyoshi Miura has signed a new contract with Japanese side Yokohama FC.
The oldest active footballer signed his first professional contract in 1986 and 2019 will be his 33rd consecutive seasons in the Japanese league.
After putting pen to paper, the 51 year old Japanese former international would be hoping to put on his scoring boot after failing to score a single goal in 2018.
During his day with the national side, "King Kazu" as he is affectionately called managed to score as many as 55 goals in 89 matches for the Asian giant.
In March 2017, Miura became the oldest goalscorer in professional football history at 50 years and 14 days old by netting the only goal of the game for J2 League Yokohama versus Thespakusatsu Gunma.
He is willing to make the best out of the contract extension in the twilight of his career.
"I will not waste it for one minute, one second," he said.
"I think that I want to go face to face with football and go to daily training with maximum power."
'Even football manager cast me off at 40'.
Miura was top scorer and MVP of the inaugural Japanese J.League season in 1993, seeing off star imports such as Gary Lineker and Zico to both accolades.
