Ghana's Abedi Ayew Pele placed fifth as Liberian president Oppong Weah voted as African greatest footballer.
Ghana's arguably best ever player Abedi Ayew Pele has been voted the fifth greatest African footballer by French Football.
The French football magazine made a list of 30 African football greats to be voted for by 42 renowned journalists, the former three times African Player of the year was voted the fifth greatest player the continent have had. Abedi Ayew made his name in France after guiding Olympique Marseille to UEFA Champions League glory in 1993, and went on to win that year's African Footballer of the year award.
The Maestro won the African cup of Nations in 1982 with the Black Stars of Ghana as a teenager.
The magazine chose the now Liberia president and Africa sole Balon d'Or winner George Oppong Weah as the greatest African footballer ever followed by former Barcelona and Cameroon legend Samuel Eto'o, in the third place was Eto'o's countryman Roger Milla. Former Chelsea and Ivory Coast forward Didier Drogba occupied the fourth position with the Maestro occupying the fifth position respectively.
Ghana's midfield gem Michael Essien, made the list placing 26th ahead of Tarak Diab, Emmanuel Adebayor, Seydou Keita and Rashid Yekini.
